Where can I find laws regarding unschooling?

Can you answer Succor’s question about Homeschooling?:

I am interested in unschooling–learning without a curriculum.
I desire to know about the laws regarding unschooling in the state of California. Can you tell me where I can find this information?

    Homeschooling Feedback:

This site has summaries of state laws regarding homeschooling which would also apply to unschooling. Good luck!

Homeschooling Feedback: The laws differ in each state, the previous answer already directed you to the Home School Legal Defense web site.
Th correct web site however is

Unschooling is a method/choice in how to home school.
On this web sites you can find needed information on unschooling.

Homeschooling Feedback: I live in California. My understanding of the law is as follows:

In California, there is no “homeschool” law, nor anything directly referencing unschooling. The compulsory age in California is between 6 and 18.

    Homeschoolers fall under these categories:
*They establish a private school in their home (file a private school affidavit each year)
*They enroll their children in a private school that offers an independent study course
*They hold, or employ a private tutor holding, a California teaching credential for the grades and subjects being taught
*They enroll their children in a public school that offers independent study (public school).
*They enroll their children in a public charter school that offers independent study, distance learning, or a homeschool program (public school).

Homeschooling Feedback: I homeschool my daughter, and my husband is about to start with my son. Check out your state’s laws regarding homeschooling. I gained a lot of information regarding the laws from going on a Yahoo! group specifically for Texas homeschooling. Homeschooler’s LOVE to help other people getting started with it.
The reason I say to check this out is due to the fact that there are some states that have specific laws about how to withdraw from public school, if you have to record grades, how many hours you have studied, if you have to take certain state tests and so on…

A couple of websites to check out: -This has a brief summary for CA.
-Here is some more info from the same site.
    -Another site with law info.
    - This has California curriculum information. (You may need this, even if you want to utilize unschooling methodologies)
    - This site has a lot of great resources

Homeschooling Feedback: From what Lunazen said you can do it, but it has to be in tandem with a structured program.

I see nothing wrong with that.

Unschool simply augements structued home school.

I learned in both ways and I leared BETTER unschooled

    What is UNSCHOOL

Buying a telescope and a star finder and going outside most of the evening and looking at what is out there just for the fun of it.

    What do you learn

Far more than any text book can teach you.

Plop a telescope down with any science teacher at night and ask them to find Polaris!

Ask them to figure out, just by looking up with their eyes, which is Jupiter or Saturn

Now, which learning system is better.

A copy of Visual BASIC 6.0 and a book or two, spending hours putting something together.

That’s unschool to a degree. Working JUST with the reference book is TOTAL unschool for it teaches you to think creatively.

Homeschooling Feedback: Unschooling is just a form of homeschooling, so you’d just look up the HS laws in CA.
